Coming to agriculture after other careers, Steve started growing heirloom tomatoes and founded Rancho Gordo in 2001 after learning about heirloom beans. Rancho Gordo now thrives as a company that serves chefs, retailers and online customers nationwide with its line of traditional and rare bean varieties.

He authored “The Bean Book,” a best-selling cookbook, in 2024. At our event, he’ll showcase recipes from the repertoire that includes earlier books on heirloom bean varieties and an in-depth guide to growing them.
